There will also be bonus track on the iTunes verison of the album titled Sunday, we haven’t heard this song yet but we anticipate to fit well into this already great album. Leading up to the album’s release, Ferry Corsten spoke with Remix Nation.com about his 20+ years as a successful DJ, producer and artist, and about what makes him tick.

Collective: On WKND, you collaborate with so many talented vocalists, including JES and Ben Hague. Was it difficult to find time to get in the studio and work with all of them considering your busy show schedule?

FERRY CORSTEN: It was pretty hectic to find time to be in the studio, but in the end, I think it was really worth it. Everyone I worked with was really professional, and that was something that made it a lot easier, too.

Collective: You also had a chance to work with good friend and fellow trance icon, Armin van Buuren, on “Brute,” which has already had great success. How was it being in studio with Armin?

FERRY CORSTEN: It felt really good to be in the studio with Armin since we know each other for a very long time. We started from scratch and we didn’t know what the track was going to be like in the end, but it felt really natural to work together. Of course, I always learn things when I work together with other artists as we all have our own ways in creating tracks.

Collective: Was there anything major you changed about how you worked in the studio with this album compared to your previous three?

FERRY CORSTEN: Nothing particular, really. I tried to be in the studio as much as I could and just went from there. I never have a ritual while I’m in the studio. I like to do whatever I feel like doing while I’m there. The only thing I did on purpose this time was to start each track with a lower bpm, since dance music is dropping its bpm overall.

Collective: How involved were you in the writing of lyrics for this album?

FERRY CORSTEN: Most of the lyrics were written by the vocalists themselves. However, I did have a clear vision of what I was looking for: positive vibes. I’m really proud of the result of all the vocal tracks. On WKND, I have different genres and different kinds of vocals. There are some really happy and some more melodramatic tunes on there. The WKND album is almost exactly split in half with songs that have vocals and those that don’t.

Collective: How important do you think it is for a full-length trance album to have a good mixture of both?

FERRY CORSTEN: I think it is more important to have vocal tracks than non-vocal tracks on an album. Vocal tracks give something to the people which they can connect and identify themselves with. Of course, non vocal tracks are important, too, as the melodies come out more in these and I’m a big fan of melodies.

Collective: Now that the album is finished, the WKND tour dates are coming together and you’re playing almost constantly right into the summer again. Any major shows in particular that you’re looking forward to?

FERRY CORSTEN: I will start with a “Full On Ferry” world tour that will also include a WKND showcase. I just hope to see all my fans out there having a good time!

Collective: In 2011, the U.S. scene grew tremendously, and EDM has moved fully into the spotlight. What do you think were some big reasons for this strong growth?

FERRY CORSTEN: I think it is because the whole mix between house / electro / trance melodies and pop really took over in the U.S. Collaborations with pop artists and dance producers are very popular in the U.S. right now.

Collective: Who are some of your favorite up-and-coming trance and electronic artists?

FERRY CORSTEN: I think that Arty is doing really well for himself, and I hope to see more of him in the future. Also, Rafael Frost, who is an artist on my own label, Flashover Recordings, keeps amazing me with his sounds.

Next week we will be seeing Ferry Corsten at Beta Nightclub on the eve of the WKND release. Find all of Ferry’s tour dates and information here. Movie Review: David Guetta “Nothing But The Beat”

A little over a month ago, I was given a copy of David Guetta’s new documentary titled “Nothing but the Beat”. I first heard about this film a couple of months ago when a preview of it surfaced on YouTube. When watching the preview, you knew that this film was going to be nothing short of epic. However, we didn’t know that it was an hour-long movie explaining the story behind the legend, David Guetta.

While watching the preview, you see many cameos from superstar artists like Afrojack, Usher, Snoop Dogg, and many more! After watching this movie, I couldn’t find the words to explain such a mind-blowing production. This film gives you a whole new perspective on David Guetta and goes in depth on what makes David Guetta the most influential DJ in the world. As cliché as this might sound, everything this man touches turns to gold. Literally every single one of his pop records has reached the number one spot all over the world. David bridged the gap between pop music and electronic music, and brought it to the main stream. Throughout the movie, you learn that David is just like any one of us, he just wants people all over the world to appreciate this music. His mission from day 1 was to change the world’s perspective on electronic music and bring awareness to the masses. What most people don’t know is that this man is more than just one hell of a producer… he is also an insanely good DJ. Not only does his stage presence work wonders on the crowd, but also his mixing skills are out of this world. The film covers his whole career and gives the audience an illustration of how some of his biggest records ever where made. For those of you who don’t really enjoy David Guetta, mark my words that this movie will change your perspective on this man. In just under a month, I have already seen this movie so many times I lost count, even my parents have seen it. To be honest, I am not sure when this film is planning on being released but when it does I HIGHLY recommend all of you buying it. If anyone thought the Swedish House mafia film was great, then just wait for this… you’re in for quite a treat!

Deadmau5- Nokia Light Up the Night (Video)

Tuesday, November 29th: Nokia Lumia Live – Millbank Tower on the banks of River Thames was turned into a living, breathing entity last night (mon) as Nokia celebrated the launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 smartphone with the most spectacular light show the capital has ever seen.

Millbank was plunged into darkness with the iconic Millbank Tower acting as the canvas for a never-before-seen spectacular. Each of the 120 metre high building’s 800 windows were covered with vinyl as 16 powerful projectors, stationed 300 metres away on the other side of the river, beamed 4D images onto the structure, making it seem like huge butterflies were flying across the London skyline and that the tower was spinning around. Billed as the “future of live events” the spectacular show was accompanied by music from super producer deadmau5, who created exclusive remixes for the performance – adding the 4th dimension.

Visuals have always been an important part of my shows, so the chance to work with Nokia and its projection team on a project of this scale and ambition is really exciting. It’s also great to be able to play such an iconic landmark and to a UK crowd. -deadmau5

Hardwell- Cobra (Official Teaser)

After his release of BETA on Monday,Hardwell released this video yesterday which is a preview to his upcoming track “Cobra” to be released on Revealed. Another huge tune from Hardwell following his massive big rooms tracks “Encoded” and “The World”. This track has unique Hardwell elements with a big chord theme just like his other tracks, but Hardwell tries out something new with a monster electro bass line drop. The track is already supported by Tiesto, David Guetta and Dada Life. Sure to get much more support from many other DJs, kinda hard to resist. What do you guys think?

Preview: Coldplay – Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (Avicii ‘Tour’ Mix)

Avicii uploaded this video today covering his 3 day European tour around 3 hot summer spots, Ibiza, Cannes and Amsterdam. Avicii said that the second song in the video is his brand new remix to “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” and just as expected Avicii never fails to impress. Also, notice in the video how Avicii interacts with all these other famous DJs and how they don’t have any animosity towards each other, but they all know Avicii is hands down a genius when it comes to producing. For those of you going to see Avicii in Phoenix at GLOWfest look for him to drop this brand new remix.

Preview: Gregori Klosman- KAMEHA (Original Mix)

Not too long ago, I posted a bootleg package Gregori had given out free to his fans. The French producer just released a preview to his up and coming MASSIVE track. The video shows Gregori dropping the track at Technoparade. The crowd seems to really like it, considering they are moving and jumping and going insane when the song goes out of control. The track is extremely heavy along with a great melody, MOST DEFINITELY A BANGER. What do you guys think?
