Sander Van Doorn feat. Mayaeni – Nothing Inside

It’s safe to say that since Ultra all EDM fans have been impatiently waiting for the release of this track. Sander Van Doorn needs no introduction and I’ve always thought he was an amazing DJ, but he really surprised me with this track. Musically this track is on a whole other level and the soulful voice of Mayaeni is the icing on the cake. With the track starting off with Sander’s typical style you don’t expect what happens when the vocals come in. Once the vocals come in its just her voice and piano notes. The piano notes then turn in to a light violin sound, which makes makes you think you’re listening to an orchestra piece instead of an electronic track. Leading up to the drop are sharp guitar strings with a beat under neath. The drop encompasses the guitar sounds, the piano, synths, and a light bass line. This is classical music meets electronic music.

Wolfgang Gartner- Redline

I’ve been a fan of Wolfgang Gartner for a very long time and I’m a big fan of his signature sound. When I see he’s released a new track I know what to expect, a heavy bassline, a lot of sound distortion, and heavy synths, which is why I’m very surprised with his latest release. Redline has definitely brought Wolfgang Gartner out of his element and it’s actually quite good. The track definitely falls more in to the progressive house genre and I think it shows how eclectic he could be as a DJ. It’s very melodic filled with an assortment of light synths and light drum sounds, which is not your typical Wolfgang Gartner track.  While listening to it I do hear a slight distortion on the light synths and sound patterns, which gives it a bit of that signature Wolfgang sound. Personally I like the track, it has a catchy melodic pattern and over all a good progressive house song. I definitely commend him for trying something new, but do I think this is his new sound? No, but I do think it’s important for DJ’s to try something new once in a while.

PREVIEW- Deniz Koyu – Bong

Deniz Koyu is back with another banger titled ‘Bong’. This song has a similar sound to his most recent release, ‘Tung’. Earlier last week, Koyu announced Bong as his official follow-up release to Tung. Koyu uses a European big room feel and a bouncy progressive style with this track. First heard on Fedde Le Grand’s radio show, this summertime banger is sure to hit festivals and clubs worldwide. Check back soon for the official release, for now enjoy the official preview!

D.E.R., DJ Fist & Sebastian Massianello – Stardust (Original Mix)

I recently stumbled upon this track, which got released earlier this month on Beatport. Honestly once I downloaded it I couldn’t stop listening to it because it reminds me a lot of old school techno. This track combines sound patterns and elements that are popular in EDM today, yet the melodic pattern that gets repeated has that old school 90′s techno style and sound. It has a progressive house start with a variety of sharp synths but then it  drops in to this very very heavy bassline, which definitely wow’d me because it was so unexpected. Considering this track is labeled progressive house I was not expecting hearing a heavy bassline that i’d usually expect in a Laidback Luke track. The melodic pattern starts off acoustic and then a progressive house beat gets added underneath it. Put those two together and you have old school electronic music meets new school, which I think works very well together in this track. The DJ’s that collaborated on this track are very very new so I couldn’t find that much information on them. Even though they are very new they’re already signed on to Dirty Talk records, so I definitely think they’re names to look out for in the future.

MitiS- Life Of Sin

In a scene that’s so focused on buildups and drops it’s rare to find tracks that stray away from the essential EDM track formula. Don’t get me wrong I love the drop as much as the next person, but it’s refreshing to come across a track where instead of just waiting for the drop to come you are taken on a journey with the track from beginning to end. MitiS who’s real name is Joe Torre is a DJ from Philadelphia. He was brought up as a classical pianist which is very evident in this track. The track is progressive house meets classical music. The arrangement of his synths combined with an intricate melodic pattern definitely makes you feel like you’re listening to a composed piano piece instead of an EDM track. The only other DJ I know that I could compare him to would be Porter Robinson, for me they have both found a way to make their music take you on a journey as opposed to just a one level track. MitiS doesn’t limit him self to just one genre either, his SoundCloud has progressive house tracks along with dubstep, electro house, and drumstep. When asked about the diversity of his productions he says ”I just wanna share good music, have it be through performance or a small, simple social setting. Music is what I do, I wouldn’t change that for anything.” I’ve included his SoundCloud link as well as a track, he’s definitely a talented producer worth listening to.

Darwin & Backwall feat. Daniel Gidlund- Never Makes You Weak (Summerburst 2012)

In the EDM world bloggers and fans are known to un officially pick the anthem of our summer festivals. Summerburst, which is a music festival in Sweden has cut out the middle man and actually officially picked the anthem of their festival this year. They’ve picked this track by Swedish duo Darwin & Backwall “Never Makes You Weak”. It has the classic makings of any summer anthem: It’s catchy, upbeat, and did i mention catchy? Once I got to the lyrics I knew why this would be picked as an anthem for a festival. Daniel Gidlund, who also did the vocals on Nause’s “Made Of” has the perfect voice for House/Progressive House/ and even Trance. It’s his amazing voice combined with such catchy lyrics “Love can make you soft, but it never makes you weak” that gives it festival anthem quality. The rest of the track has the staples of any summer themed track. It’s driven by light synths with a light congo drum sound under it and there’s even bird sounds in the beginning of it. I hope this track gets added to the list of summer anthems at our US festivals.

Nari & Milani vs. Maurizo Gubellini- Up (Original mix + Cristian Marchi Remix)

Nari & Milani who are now very well known for their massive track “Atom” has re-released their track “Up”, which is a collaboration with Italian DJ Maurizo Gubellini. Back in February Cr2 records released a Miami Compilation album, which featured the original version of this track.  The track in general is definitely less intense than “Atom”, yet it still has that hit potential. The track definitely has a lighter feel than “Atom”, which at times makes it sound like a mixture of techno and progressive house. At the drop is an amazing hard hitting bass line, which then gets accompanied by light synths and snares. You may be wondering as I was “Who is this newcomer they’ve collaborated with?”.  Maurizo is actually not a newcomer at all, in fact he is one of the top 5 DJ’s in Italy.

The remix of this track is done by another popular Italian DJ Cristian Marchi. The remix is definitely the opposite of the original in terms of the sound quality. Cristian warps the vocals to make them deeper. He keeps the initial beat in the beginning but changes the sound quality to give it more of a deep electro feel as opposed to the original light techno sound. I love the drop because he changes it to give it a dutch sound, which definitely compliments the rest of the track.
