Robbie Rivera feat. Mr. Eyez- Dance Your Ass Off

This track is my personal favorite off of Robbie Rivera’s recently released Dance or Die Series 1 album. I first saw Robbie Rivera at last years Electric Zoo and he completely blew me away. His set was very eclectic to say the least and I think he’s very underrated in the DJ world considering he didn’t even make the top 100 list. This track is very new school meets old school. Robbie Rivera has been around since the 90′s so he’s not a newcomer, but his track incorporates the current house sound yet the vocals provided by Mr. Eyez makes it sound like a dance track from the 90′s. Mr. Eyez’s voice sounds like that typical male voice that we heard on almost every popular dance track on the 90′s, which gives it a fun, upbeat, and nostalgic feel. The beats under it are very hard hitting and represents Robbie Rivera’s amazing skills as a DJ. This track is just an example of how good the rest of the album is so i definitely suggest you give it a listen.

Spencer and Hill- Surrender (Quintino Remix)

Saying that Quintino has been on fire lately is an understatement. From his collaboration with Afrojack on “Selecta”, his collaboration with Sandra Silva on “Epic”, the huge success of his track”Circuits”, and his latest remix of Calvin Harris’ “Let’s Go” he’s been taking the EDM world by storm one track at a time. His latest is work is a remix of the German duo Spencer and Hill’s track “Surrender”. He turned the original track which was more progressive to an upbeat electro house track with a big room house style drop. He definitely gives it a little bit of a pop sound but not in a way where it becomes that commercial house sound, which has become a trend nowadays. His melodic synth work is also pretty impressive in this track and over all this track has a lighter sound than we’re used to hearing from Quintino. Quintino is definitely on a roll and I can’t wait to see what he puts out next.

Hard Rock Sofa & Swanky Tunes vs Nari & Milani – Apogee Atom (Zack Edward & Rob Puls Festival Edit)

If you’ve seen Thomas Gold recently then you’ve heard Zack Edward, whether you realized it or not. I discovered Zack Edward a few months back when I saw Thomas Gold at GLO nightclub. Thomas Gold played his mashup “Fix Your Million Voices” and I was completely floored by it. “Apogee Atom” is his latest release and I think it’s his best creation since “Fix Your Million Voices”. He does a fantastic job of mixing the songs together and I haven’t heard any other mashup of Atom that sounds like this. Instead of the tracks overpowering one another they actually compliment each other. He uses the melodic beats of Apogee in the beginning with a little sample of Atom underneath it. As it gets to the build up you assume he’s going to use the drop from Atom because it’s so hard hitting. Instead he keeps the light melodic over tone of Apogee with samples of the Atom buildup under neath it. I was really surprised how well both tracks mixed together especially at the drop. Instead of  having just one track go into another he actually cut up each song using the parts that complimented each other. He’s definitely a rising talent you’ll see more of in the future.

Calvin Harris feat. Ne-yo- Let’s Go (Extended Mix + Quintino Remix)

After the monumental success of “We Found Love” Calvin Harris is back with another pop hit. Most of the time I hate when EDM DJ’s collaborate with pop artists but I think Ne-yo is a great addition to this track. He’s one of the few voices I don’t mind on an EDM track mainly cause it doesn’t over power the instrumentals. Ne-yo also has a pretty good voice and I think I like him better on the EDM tracks as opposed to his own music. The original is very pop house and of course very catchy. Like his last hit “We Found Love” this is definitely going to be big on the pop charts and played on radios all summer.

I’m pretty neutral when it comes to the original version. It’s a great pop EDM track but I definitely prefer Quintino’s remix. Quintino  makes it sound more like a straight electro track as opposed to a pop hit. He replaces the light pop-electro sounds with a deeper heavy electro sound, which I definitely prefer.

Darwin & Backwall feat. Daniel Gidlund- Never Makes You Weak (Summerburst 2012)

In the EDM world bloggers and fans are known to un officially pick the anthem of our summer festivals. Summerburst, which is a music festival in Sweden has cut out the middle man and actually officially picked the anthem of their festival this year. They’ve picked this track by Swedish duo Darwin & Backwall “Never Makes You Weak”. It has the classic makings of any summer anthem: It’s catchy, upbeat, and did i mention catchy? Once I got to the lyrics I knew why this would be picked as an anthem for a festival. Daniel Gidlund, who also did the vocals on Nause’s “Made Of” has the perfect voice for House/Progressive House/ and even Trance. It’s his amazing voice combined with such catchy lyrics “Love can make you soft, but it never makes you weak” that gives it festival anthem quality. The rest of the track has the staples of any summer themed track. It’s driven by light synths with a light congo drum sound under it and there’s even bird sounds in the beginning of it. I hope this track gets added to the list of summer anthems at our US festivals.

Nari & Milani vs. Maurizo Gubellini- Up (Original mix + Cristian Marchi Remix)

Nari & Milani who are now very well known for their massive track “Atom” has re-released their track “Up”, which is a collaboration with Italian DJ Maurizo Gubellini. Back in February Cr2 records released a Miami Compilation album, which featured the original version of this track.  The track in general is definitely less intense than “Atom”, yet it still has that hit potential. The track definitely has a lighter feel than “Atom”, which at times makes it sound like a mixture of techno and progressive house. At the drop is an amazing hard hitting bass line, which then gets accompanied by light synths and snares. You may be wondering as I was “Who is this newcomer they’ve collaborated with?”.  Maurizo is actually not a newcomer at all, in fact he is one of the top 5 DJ’s in Italy.

The remix of this track is done by another popular Italian DJ Cristian Marchi. The remix is definitely the opposite of the original in terms of the sound quality. Cristian warps the vocals to make them deeper. He keeps the initial beat in the beginning but changes the sound quality to give it more of a deep electro feel as opposed to the original light techno sound. I love the drop because he changes it to give it a dutch sound, which definitely compliments the rest of the track.

Tiesto & Swanky Tunes feat. Ben McInerney- Make Some Noise

Swanky Tunes have been a favorite of mine for a while, and I’m happy the Russian DJ trio comprised of  Vadim, Dmitry, and Stanislav are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Their remixes of popular EDM tracks has gotten them attention from a lot of popular DJ’s, which has lead to their latest collaboration with DJ legend Tiesto. This track has potential hit written all over it. The beginning of the track definitely has that warped acoustic beat that Swanky Tunes is famous for in their other tracks and remixes. The rest of the track has a progressive house feel with a big room drop, which definitely gives the track it’s hit quality. What seals the deal is the vocals added by Ben McInerney. He has a soft clear voice which is a perfect addition to the track, especially when it’s layered over the more progressive house sections. This track recently made an appearance in Sebastian Ingrosso’s latest Refune radio episode and is going to be one of the tracks on Tiesto’s upcoming Club Life- Volume Two Miami album.
