Ed Clowes- ReImagine

Electronic Dance Music is without a doubt the dominant music genre right now. With that said, other music genres have definitely become stagnant in the past few years. In my opinion one genre that has unfortunately become stagnant is Hip-Hop. I used to be a big Hip-Hop fan so it’s upsetting to see a genre that produced talented artists such as Biggie, Tupac, Dre, Jay-Z, Kanye, and so many others not produce that many ground breaking artists anymore.  DJ Ed Clowes felt the same way, which inspired him to make this album.

It’s not a new idea to mix Hip-Hop with EDM beats but some of the tracks on this album are the best attempt of that combination i’ve heard so far. The song combinations that appear on this album actually work and sound well together. A lot of Hip-Hop and EDM mash ups sound forced and don’t really blend well together. One of my favorite tracks off the album “Forget About Rolling Stones” combines Dada Life’s “Rolling Stone T-Shirt” with Dr. Dre & Eminem’s  ”Forget About Dre”. He starts off with Dada Life’s track and brings in “Forget About Dre” right at the drop which is totally unexpected and actually works together sound wise. Ed Clowes has said about the album “It’s not perfect, but it is refreshing, and interesting” and I definitely agree. Who knows if Hip-Hop and EDM can potentially co-exist like this but it’s great to hear a new spin on classic tracks.

Hoodie Allen & Mike Posner- Evil Woman (ft. ELO)

This song has an infectious beat, smooth vocals and some dirty rhymes. It’s just a great all around song and one that I’ve been listening to pretty constantly over the past two weeks. Mike Posner adds his signature touch of suave, silky vocals on this track. Overall, this song is sure to be great in many different contexts, whether it’s chilling at home, and getting ready to go out or at the club. This track maintains the identity of both Hoodie and Posner, while fusing the styles of both artists perfectly. We can be rest assured that this will not be the only track that these two collaborate on. On a related note, Hoodie Allen has impressed me his new album All American. His single No Interruption is sure to spread like wildfire, as will other songs off of the album including No Faith in Brooklyn (ft. Jhameel). While you’re rocking out to this jam, be sure to check out Hoodie’s other new stuff! Enjoy the ear candy and GTHC!

Zeds Dead & Omar LinX – Victor Mixtape

Last week Zeds Dead and Omar LinX put our the very impressive Victor mixtape and I have been hooked on it. The mixtape has a combination of brand new songs and older Zeds Dead songs that Omar LinX added vocals to. Its like a show case of everything Zeds Dead and Omar LinX have done together thus far. Personally my favorite tracks from Victor are The One or You and I, although Out For Blood is always a classic.  I was extremely excited last time I saw Zeds Dead in Denver that they brought Omar along. Zeds Dead, Omar LinX, and araabMUZIK are currently all on tour together, dates are listed below. Zeds Dead has also been announced to play Colorado’s largest three day EDM festival, Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks.

Cypress Hill X Rusko – Roll it, Light It

As you most likely already know UK dubstep super star Rusko has joined up with California’s own Cypress Hill to put together a five track EP. Cypress X Rusko will be in April but today they put out the single Roll It, Light It for free. A prefect blend of Rusko’s production and Cypress Hill’s hip hop flare, this stoner anthem is a great up beat song. We are very excited to hear Rusko play this along with his other new tracks at Snowball Music Festival next week, yet it’s sure to have an even better reaction when Rusko headlines Levitate Festival on 4/20 at the 1st Bank Center.
